2. Bandwidth
What is it anyway? Bandwidth is
a measure of the amount of information (data) can be transferred from your web
site and is calculated over a defined period of time, usually a month. Whenever
anyone asks of content on your site (pages or images) from their Web browser,
this counts as the use of bandwidth. Sites that have large pages or large
images that have not been properly optimized will exhaust the bandwidth
resources much faster than websites that optimize and control page and file
image sizes with heavy traffic. Before you upload your website, optimize your
content and images to get more bandwidth value for your dollar. Research how
much traffic you anticipate having initially. For example, will you launch your
marketing campaigns immediately after your site launches or will you wait a few
months?
If you created a following for a new product whose launch is expected,
then it may be wise to choose a larger plan to prepare before the next traffic
demands.
Be sure to check with the host
about bandwidth limitations. Some providers will just charge you a surplus,
while others will automatically suspend your account (meaning that nobody can
see your content) until the next billing cycle when your bandwidth is renewed.
It would be devastating to try to pull up your website only to find it has
disappeared due to over-consumption of bandwidth.
